If something hasn't been worn, or used within the previous year, it has been donated.
This is a real switch for me as I have been referred to as "the squirrel" in the past by more than one friend. I have always been someone who saved every little thing from ribbon & tags on presents, drying flowers from bouquets, and that was even before having children. That started an entirely new collection - every little scribble and school artwork piece, etc...etc...
This year, I crafted & created with items I had on hand in Sparrow Studio, before purchasing anything new, and I can see a huge improvement in the organization of my storage cupboard (although I am a bit sad to see only a few pieces of vintage lace left in a box that was spilling out before). It's amazing how once things get tidied, you realize just how many duplicates of items you have!!
Tastes change, and some items I once loved, I am now ready to part with.
My hope chest also had a big tidy up ... although I think I spent most of the afternoon reading through all my cards . I save them all and that won't change :-) My hope chest is the perfect spot to keep them, tied in ribbons, safe and sound.

There are some things, however, that I am so thankful to have held on to.
Lots of memories ...
And each year, I think they become just a little more special ♥

is a way of holding onto the things
you love,
the things
you are,
the things
you never want to lose

I love the skates a lot! It is a good feeling to purge isn't it?! I have been doing that too, I gave half of my Christmas things to my daughters this year and it does feel good to downsize! Come say hi :D
I passed up I don't know how many pairs of ice skates this year. I love the way that you used yours.
I love how your displayed these......so special!
Hello Deb, I love your skates and sled all decorated for the holidays... I wish I could get up the nerve to purge as well... I just get sooo attached to things... and I too am a pack~rat of sorts... I think after the holidays I will do what you did... xoxo Julie Marie
I love the idea of using ice skates to decorate with! I know I have a pair somewhere in the basement ... :)
My Mother was not a saver. I often wish I had some remnant of my childhood. I used to keep more than I do now because of that. I think my children will think that I am not a saver either. I think when you move a lot you tend to not save. Lucky you to have some wonderful mementos.
Thanks everyone for your comments - I think the skates/sleigh become even more special only coming out once a year ♥
Your photos are so truly lovely dear friend.
I have skates attached to an old sled...one of our favorite decorations and so sentimental too. Like yours...nothing better than that!
I know I have been a bad blog friend for awhile but I think about you so often...
Love,
Sue
Beautiful post...I love the skates!
Reminds me of Joni Mitchell's River.
