The ordinary arts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest ~ Sir Thomas Moore ~

maple days ...

we were fortunate to have a beautiful, sunny day
for our traditional maple syrup farm visit
the wind was cool
but the warm sun had the sap running freely
there was a gap in the wire fencing just large enough so I could snap a photo of this gorgeous turkey

we admired his stunning colours as he strutted around his pen confidently
and then we walked towards the cattle ...
and
fell
in
love
{BIG time}
the calves took turns licking their mama
who was basking in the sunshine
pure contentment
the piglets were playing
and so funny to watch
{hadn't noticed the two different tails until I uploaded the photos}
another watchful eye ~
and a precious new life xo
and flocks of happy, chubby, chirping sparrows
helped make it the perfect day ♥
May you always be connected

save the page ...

I thought the cover of the April/May/June issue of Somerset Life was so gorgeous!
Inside, my water coloured friendship flags & bookmarks can be found on page 74
in this exceptionally gorgeous issue  ♥
I will (and do) paint on just about anything
and found that muslin was fabulous at holding onto paints.
I love the subtle hue of the Spring time shades with the sun shining through.
they remind me of melted crayon art and wax paper :-D

carving out a beautiful day ...

finds from my walk today ...
  nests that I've passed
and taken photos of
through the seasons
were found blowing across snow & ice covered fields
I couldn't leave them there to fall apart (although one of them did)
they now sit on a stack of lovely aspen logs ♥
 the frozen lake
 so still and beautiful
at home, I've been carving out stamps ...
coming up with some whimsical designs :-)
which once I was finished created a lovely little nest,
a resting spot for one of my birdies ♥
carve every word
before you let it fall

a weekend walk ...

the sun was shining but it was cold ...
the trumpet swans were having loud conversations :-D ...
chickadees were settling on our outstretched hands ...
squirrels were following us along the path anticipating the next peanut toss ...
ducks and geese and sea gulls were enjoying the sun and walking about ...
and the sweetest little chippie kept us amused as he came out of his hole for some seed
and then dove back in ~ each time it required a little face wash :-)

Thankful {things I love} Thursday ...

It took me a while to decide what to do with  a folder of artwork ...
I like to use my own designs in my collages & have lots of samples
where I've tried out new paints, pens, markers, brushes on ...
and I actually came up with the idea while I was tearing them up  ...
and saw all these gorgeous colours and patterns :-)
~hidden treasures~
and decided to CUT the remainder up ...
I then created a few collages ...
maybe I will sew a few together and make a garland ...
or a really big piece of abstract  art!
I have a box full of triangles just waiting to begin a new life :-D
for now ...
they made for a lovely patchwork quilt
it was a bit like sitting with puzzle pieces
as I fit one half of a painted butterfly with another
 ♥
we got a huge blast of Winter yesterday
which left us with a few more inches of fresh snow ...
and the tennis ball that Archer left outside a few days earlier
could not be found ...
even though he tried so hard :-D

Thankful {things I love} Thursday ...

morning meditation
trataka
{concentrated gazing}
the glow & gentle scent of beeswax candles
sparrow dish belonged to my grandmother ♥
I have used it for different things over the years ~ to hold little puddles of sea salt & black pepper, tiny dinner mints at the table, next to my tea cup to hold the tea bag and spoon,
now I use it solely to hold matches to light my morning meditation candles
{Wade England}
I could spend hours upon hours in libraries and cooking supply stores :-D
and always wanted a French rolling pin, was thrilled to find it under the Christmas tree this past Christmas {with a little note from Santa thanking me for the homemade oatmeal cookies & milk} ♥
I put it to good use this morning
making cinnamon/almond buns
with the weather being so cold
I've been tossing handfuls of almonds out to the squirrels
so was thankful that I had enough left to add to the filling ...
the kitchen smells divine
a tiny drizzle of icing
yum

hello beautiful one
my sous chef :-)

still early ...
soon the sunbeams will pour through the window
and I will have dancing prisms
throughout the room ♥
when I start to bake and since the oven is on
I always make a few things
chocolate chip cookies were next
{banana loaf is baking now}

picked up this cute little bird feeder for my grandson ~ we love to go on nature walks
along the marina, talk about boats and fish and birds ...
take a container of seed and feed the chickadees and chipmunks
I only attached it to the window yesterday and within the hour
the female red cardinal was there which really surprised me since all the other feeders were freshly filled ~ usually new feeders sit for days until the birds become comfortable with it.
Looking forward to this 'close up view'
time to sit
and watch the birds
listen to some soft jazz
enjoy a mug of tea
(and a little treat)
hope your Thursday is filled with things you love
