Oh! the snow ...

 Oh! the snow,
the beautiful snow,
filling the sky and the earth below.
Over the housetops, over the street,
over the head of people you meet.
 Dancing, flirting, skimming along.
~J.W. Watson~

When I took my camera outside to take some snowy garden photos, I noticed a few buds opened on the French Pussy Willow :-)  We had a nice snowfall yesterday, leaving the garden covered in a blanket of white.  Not sure how long it will last though as it is mild today and the sun is beaming!

I've always felt that finding a feather upon your path is a sign & I always stop and say a prayer of gratitude when I come across one.
On this past weekend's walk, the camera was turned off,  lens was back on and we were on our way home when we came across this lovely lone white swan feather.
Instead of cropping the photo, I decided to leave it just as it had been taken, thinking  how beautiful it looked amongst leaves and twigs and dirt.
I remember reading that it is believed in many cultures that finding a feather upon your path was a sign of encouragement ~  Birds being creatures of the sky (Heavens).  The hollow shaft of the feather allowing for prayers said, to rise up through the shaft.

Texture Tuesdays...

The prompt/theme this week for Texture Tuesday is Story.
 My Life...

I created a fabric journal a few years ago using a cereal box as the base, covering it in bits and pieces of left over fabric  and embellished  the cover with vintage ribbons, lace and buttons.
Inside, I made pockets ~little spots to hold journal pages. sketches and quotes .

Weekend Walk...

headed out  yesterday with a small bag of seed & some peanuts in my pocket.
Camera in hand.

this gorgeous (and large) rabbit hopped towards me.
I stood for a while just admiring him.
I've always loved bunnies and had one as a child named Cinders.  He was pure white with the slightest smudge of black on his nose ~ like Cinder dust ♥ hence his name.
I could hear the black capped Chickadees long before we spotted them.
Though it was cold, the sun was shining brightly I  really had to look to find them amongst the trees.
This beautiful female Cardinal flew down followed shortly by her mate.
Ice sculptures at the lake :-)
Can you spot both the chickadees ?  They were  really  well camouflaged.
Squirrels were comical as  always ...

We spend January 1st
walking through our lives,
room by room,
drawing up a list of work to be done,
cracks to be patched.
Maybe this  year,
to balance the list
we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives
not looking for flaws,
but for
potential

Yarn Along...

What I'm Knitting & Reading ...

With Valentine's & Easter approaching, I've been thinking bunnies & hearts & lambs...

so when I spotted an adorable knitted lamb on my friend Q's blog, I knew I wanted to make one :-)

Q generously emailed me a pattern and I couldn't wait to begin.

Using Loops & Threads "Charisma" in Taupe and White, he knit up really quickly.

Reading this fabulous Vegan cookbook Veganomicon
and just finished "The Second Journey". Fantastic!
I'd read another book by Joan Anderson "A Year By The Sea" and I really like her writing style.

And because I thought he needed some accessories, Lamb got a mini quilt, heart shaped pillow and nightcap made too :-)

***

The challenge this week at the cafe was to include the texture Embrace.

Ever since I chose Embrace as my "word" for 2012, I seem to find it everywhere!

So much so, that I've started a quote journal just for this word :-)

Thankful {things I love} Thursday...

Lately our garden has seen more squirrels than birds.

Each morning we have 6-8 squirrels scurrying around on the deck, pergola, fence, and of course, at the feeders.

It seems the garlands I made to decorate all the garden hooks have come in handy as little resting spots :-)

The sunflower seeds were intended for the red cardinals. We have a pair that stop by daily.
I left for a minute to make my tea, and when I sat back down at the kitchen table, noticed that the garland must have given way. That was on the ground, but someone didn't seem to be too bothered!

We sat amazed at this little guys acrobatic skills.
When you get into a tight place

and everything goes against you,

till it seems as though you could not hang on

a minute longer,

never give up then,

for it is just the place and time

that the tide will turn

I know Shakespeare was referring to stars ... but I couldn't help think the same thing as we walked up the path to our front door, twinkle lights illuminating the way ♥
