Barn Chicks Meeting ...

"Under October's Magic Spell" ...

I thought Julie chose the perfect title for her October Barn Chicks Meeting ...
I feel as though I am under "October's Magic Spell"... my favourite Season, favourite weather, favourite colours all come together.

Sharing some of my favourite October images today for Julie Marie's magical October party ...

Barns ~ I ♥ them!

They are a favourite to photograph ... I think I should have a bumper sticker that says

"I brake for barns" :-)
When ever I see them out comes the camera!
Chrysanthemums & pumpkins ...
and Country walks ...
over old bridges ...
miles and miles of corn fields ...
and trees filled with singing birds...
We pulled over to the side of the road so I could take this photo the other day and to our surprise Coopers Hawk flew beside us! He must have been in the fields. He was enormous, much larger than I thought they were (I'd only seen them before circling the sky).
Horses ...

another ♥ love...

and I always have a little conversation with them :-)

A city girl who longs to live in the country ...

To celebrate our Canadian Thanksgiving I've made Maple Leaf Cookies. When I put them on the desert buffet, I slip Maple Leaves from our tree under neath the paper doilies so they are just peeking through and I'll give them a dusting of icing sugar (or if you have a sweet tooth you could put a little frosting on them) .
Maple Leaf Cookies

1 cup butter at room temp

1 cup brown sugar

1 large free range egg yolk

1/2 cup pure Canadian Maple syrup

3 cups flour

dash of cinnamon/nutmeg/ginger

Mix all ingredients well. Roll out on a floured board and cut out with a Maple Leaf cookie cutter. Place on a parchment covered cookie sheet and bake 10 minutes at 350.
Thank you Julie Marie for hosting "Under October's Magic Spell" ♥

I had a little giggle at seeing your barn enthusiasm. I have an artist friend that moved here from a city and she told her husband that she wasn't going to become a "barn painter". Ha.. As your pictures show there is so much more beauty in the country besides barns. I love old barns. They have such character to me. It is like painting the faces of aged wisen women.

What a wonderful post for the barn party. I love your barn pics and all the gorgeous Fall elements in the enviroment. It is my favorite time of year too and you sure captured lots of beauty and you give me inspiration for painting too.
Love the cookie recipe.
Congrats to your anniversary winner.

So enjoyed my visit.

Hello Deb... your Barn Chicks post is so fabulous! The countryside looks so pretty... I would love to walk by that lake, across the old bridge, past the horses ... I talk to all of the animals as I walk too... I know they understand me and I love them so! The barns near you are beautiful! I too "brake for barns" and always have my camera with me! Your vintage scale is great filled with Autumn's bounty... and the little turkey place setting card you son made is indeed a treasure to bring out each year... Happy Thanksgiving to you in Canada... what a beautiful time of year it is...also love your little turkey salt and pepper shakers... I too carry on family traditions, always!... I am going to bake some of your cookies, thanks for sharing the recipe... your post perfectly captures all of the beauty "Under October's Magical Spell"... and it captures my heart too!... xoxo Julie Marie

Congratulations on your blogiversary and Happy Thanksgiving. Give Ernie a hug from me.
I had to smile at the recipe, "free range" egg yolk. Years from now people will either ask, is there any other kind, or remember the good old days when chickens were allowed to eat bugs and eggs were not factory produced.
Such beautiful color you are already experiencing.

Deb I love your Fall decor! I also love the beautiful photos I come to count on when I visit you. Just gorgeous! I love barns and for some reason I feel very connected to them. I wonder if it is because a lot of my very young days were spent swinging from a rope in the loft of the old barn we had on our place where my dad milked our cows.
I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.
Hugs to you...
