I recently read, with much interest, the healing aspects of "forest bathing".
Now I already knew how wonderful our daily walks left us feeling ~ even short treks through the woods near our home, but I did not know there was a name for it.
It is believed that the trees emit natural essential oils that are aroma therapeutic.
Oh the wonderful healing effects of Mother Nature.
Shrinrin - yoku is a Japanese term which when translated, means "forest bathing".
I have jotted down a list of ( new to us) forested areas that we hope to visit over the next few weekends.
I think Archer knew all along about the benefits of forest bathing
which is why he is always so happy & eager to head out :-)
Now I know that I am a nemophilist.
(n.) a haunter of the woods; one who loves the forest and it's beauty and solitude.
the forests too, seem kindly familiar;
and the lakes and meadows
and glad singing streams.
I should like to dwell with them
forever.

I truly believe in what you have learned. I think the forests as well as some bodies of water have healing properties. I have also been experimenting with several types of tree oils to help my terribly dry skin and eczema, and it has been a positive experience. Thanks for the info!

Oh Deb, this is such an interesting post!... I am totally a "nemophilist" too!... and I know Tessy is as well, just like Archer!... love your old drawer filled with your treasures from the trail, and that little fox is adorable!... is it a candle?... I would never light it, it's so cute... little birthday package should arrive any day for Archer... Tessy sends her love, xoxo Julie Marie
love all your postings.
Have a great weekend.
Love Jeanne
I love spending time in forests, so i liked reading this, i never knew that they emitted essential oils, but that makes sense, they are so healing to the spirit. Now i can't wait until my next visit, with this info in mind.
Such a perfect quote too:)
hi jane ~ I agree ... always feel soothed by water. walks along the lake are my favourite way to start the day ♥
hello Julie marie ~ yes you are definitely a fellow nemophilist ♥ the old drawer was a freebee, I like to think it was once in an old library holding index cards :-) I have told Archer to look out for the postman xoxo
wishing you a wonderful weekend Jeanne xo
hi jenni ~ I'm so happy you found this interesting too.
This makes me want to find a forest and go for a walk! :) I love the idea that trees emit essential oils. xo
we were at an outdoor concert last night and sat under the tallest pines ... the scent was amazing ... maybe after all of Saturday's rain ... but it was much more pungent than usual ♥
