The ordinary arts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest ~ Sir Thomas Moore ~

A greeting & a homage to the sea ...

visiting with friends
at their cottage...
looking out at the lake
I spotted him!
I grabbed my camera.
I did not want to miss out on what might be my only opportunity to get a hummingbird photo :-)
I clicked and clicked
even though more often than not
he was barely visible,
camouflaged amongst the cedars.
one morning
I took my coffee outside
and waited.
I could hear him chirping away
but could not see him.
And then finally
I spotted him.
I had never seen a hummer resting on a branch either.
At home they have always been flapping their wings rapidly in mid air.
thank you Hummer for making my day(s)!
boats
lighthouse
the most gorgeous rock
&
refreshing mist
I find myself
at the extremity of a long beach.
How gladly does the spirit leap forth,
and suddenly enlarge it's sense of being to the full extent of the broad, blue,
sunny deep!
A greeting and a homage to the sea!
I descent over its margin, and dip my hand into the wave that meets me,
and bathe my brow.
That far- resounding roar is the Ocean's voice of welcome.
His salt breath
brings a blessing along with it.

You must have felt taken away..

This is my idea of quiet bliss..
How fortunate you are.

I have hummers..but as soon as I go out to snap..gone..unlike the bees that seem to pose foe me..and the butterflies..

So scenic..so beautiful..
The boat..
Anyways..lovely photos..calm and serene.

hello Monique ~ I have tried for so long at home to get a photo of the hummers with no luck at all, so was absolutely thrilled to have just arrived at the cottage and spot them at the feeder! they made my day :-)

Just beautiful Deb... I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing time... and I am sooo happy you finally got your Hummer photos!... she's a beauty!... ours always land on the perches on our feeders to sip their nectar, or wait in a tree nearby for me to fill it... they truly are "winged jewels"!... xoxo Julie Marie

I love that you caught the hummer in flight. Such a wonderful pic. And of course I love the sea and the quote is a favorite.

hi Julie marie ~ as soon as I saw the hummers (had just arrived at the cottage) I grabbed for the camera afraid that I would miss the opportunity & thought "wait until I tell Julie marie" :-) xo

Kerrie ~ thought of you fellow lover of the sea ♥
On our 2nd day at the cottage I headed outside to get photos of the hummer ... but after taking a few felt sorry for disturbing him and grateful for the ones I had. I really wasn't sure how they would turn out as I was clicking away & it was hard to see him in the cedars.

hi Meredith ~ the hummers were a bit different up north than I have seen in my garden too ... all lovely though ♥

hi Elaine ~ I had never seen hummers resting, they have always been in flight in our garden and left so quickly I could never get a photo. the hummers up north happily sat on the branches looking around ♥

It sounds like a lovely and restful time away, Deb! Being by the water is always soothing.

How wonderful to see a hummingbird! They've been scarce this year.

Enjoy this last weekend of summer! xo
