At the end of each Summer
I go about the garden with little glassine bags gathering the spent seeds. As
I always have an abundance of Morning glory seeds, I like to make up small "Friendship Garden" Seed Bags. Not all of the seeds end up being saved however as I love to run my hand across the tendrils and toss seeds back into my garden
(which is probably the reason we find Morning Glory blooming in the most unusual spots) :-D
but I always manage to have enough to put a dozen or so seeds in each little bag.
For the past few days, I've traded in my usual watercolours for coloured pencils and ink ...
an have an abundance of shavings to show for my work ♥
I often receive e mails asking me what paints, paper and pencils I use,
for me it is simple,
nothing like a freshly sharpened #2 HB Graphite pencil, a rainbow of Prismacolor pencils, and
lots of Micron pens 01, 02, 03, 05, and 08 ... 05 being the most used.
~happiness~
I made some little sparrow ♥ seeds
labels to attach to each bag ...
I ♥ sparrows ...
and butterfly wings ...
inspirational words ...
and nests ...
filled with
hedge sparrow eggs ...
looking through pages of old gardening journals ...
reading about Morning Glory ...
Happy Gardening Memories

Hi Deb... oooh, thank you for sharing what kinds of pencils, pens, etc that you use!... I told you I just bought some new watercolor pencils and a few pens and sketchpads... I am not nearly the artist you are!... but I do love to sketch and write, and post in my garden and nature journals... love that you too save seeds and how fun you scatter them as well... I love having little plants emerge in unexpected places!... I started with just one Foxglove when we first moved into our home, then shook seeds everywhere... now, I have a garden full of them!... love seeing all of your beautiful sketches and little snippets from your garden journal... thanks for sharing your garden memories... and soon, a new Spring will arrive!... xoxo Julie Marie
What a pretty post! I saved a lot of flower seeds last year. This was my first attempt, so we'll see how they grow!
Such beautiful artwork!
hi Julie marie - I bet you are having fun experimenting with all your new pencils, pens & sketchpads! I love foxgloves - we had them in our garden once upon a time, but after harsh winters like this year, so many of our perennials don't make it. We lost our Hollyhock for the same reason ...they are both on my garden list again :-)
hi andrea - thank you! sounds like you will have a wonderful garden this year ♥
thank you so much Barb ♥
You are so gifted my friend. Hugs to you and happy creating.
Meredith
hugs to you Meredith ~ thank you ♥
Deb I love your drawings and the pencils! How about that cold snap we've been having!Always a pleasure to stop by a friends blog!
I love Morning Glories!Stay warm!
hello anna,
thank you ♥
this Winter has reminded me of childhood Winters ... all that wishing for snow in past years came true :-D
Hi Deb! I love sparrows too, and your drawings of them are beautiful. Sadly their numbers are reducing in England now, I see very very few in my garden.
... Hmmm, could that be a Marjolein's Garden Journal????❤❤❤
Your seeds sachets are so lovely! What treasures to be cherished into a special gardening journal!
xoxo
hello Jessica ~ thank you ♥ we lovingly refer to our little garden as "Sparrows Garden" but the number of Sparrows has declined in our garden too ( with Coopers Hawk flying about) ... hope we both see many more Sparrows enjoying our gardens this year xo
hello Monica ... how did you guess :-D It's a book I've had for so many years & have jotted down garden notes in. No space for anything else now. I love it ♥
Wish I could share my garden seeds xo
When I pull my annuals out, I give them a shake to spread the seeds. It's fun to see what comes up (and where!). I bought a couple of packets of seeds last week. Just thinking about planting them makes me smile. I love your drawings, Deb and the little peek into your garden journal. xo
hi Lynda - it is fun to see what and where flowers will bloom :-) we have a very casual English country style garden, so that style of gardening is perfect for us too ♥ this is the month for seed buying ...so exciting! enjoy xo
