The ordinary arts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest ~ Sir Thomas Moore ~

baking, making & watercolour painting ...

one of the reasons I am such a Fall & Winter loving girl
is my love of home comforts ...
 baking,
 cooking
 anything home related ...
so this past week
while I watched the weather change from snow, to rain
and listened to heavy, heavy winds
I spent time
baking banana nut loaf ...
making some gnudi for our dinner
with fresh tomato sauce
found an old jar in the storage cupboard that was perfect for holding
toffees
put some new fresh flowers on the kitchen table
enjoyed the scene outside my kitchen window
listened to the wonderful, soulful music of Ron Sexsmith - one of my favourite musicians
I remember  listening to the radio as I drove home one day and hearing a song "This is how I know"
I had to wait to find out who the artist was and once I heard the name, went out and purchased the C.D.  Since then, I've been a fan & had the great joy of seeing Ron Sexsmith play live (AMAZING)!!
I have this wonderful C.D. (Forever Endeavour) playing at the moment... my favourite song(s) being Life after a Broken Heart and Nowhere Is
Jay bird doesn't stop by our garden very often
but always makes his presence known.
He wasn't very happy with the squirrels who were eating the almonds I put out :-)
so I had to make sure he got a few!
He thanked me by becoming just the inspiration needed & the perfect fill in for a bare spot I had on a painting I was working on ♥
 some pastel sketches ...
 while I watched the Olympics
~have a wonderful weekend~

Sounds wonderful. I'm not at home this weekend, but our friend's home is so relaxed, I may as well be.

Pure bliss dear Deb!... love your days spent filled with the comforts of home... I am definitely an Autumn person, that is my favorite time to bake... not a winter person though!... and this one has been sooo long!... I love puttering around our home always too, as you saw from what I have been doing to our bedroom... your banana nut loaf looks delish!... I am making more of your granola this afternoon... I am addicted to it!... your fresh flowers are so pretty and your Blue Jay is just stunning!... ours have been here all morning, scolding me when they run out of peanuts, so I have to hurry and take more out to them!.. enjoy the rest of your weekend... our days truly are spent so much alike in so many ways... Woof to Archer!... xoxo Julie Marie and Tessy

I think I have to comment on everything here, Deb! I share you love of being in a cozy kitchen once the weather turns cold. I am SO curious to know what gnudi is. It looks so interesting and delicious. Do you mind sharing your recipe?

I'm also curious about the musician. I remember hearing a song by Ben Harper on the radio and had to Google him and then bought every one of his CD's...so I know how you can fall in love with music like way. What sort of music is this?

Your watercolors are simply beautiful. I really enjoy seeing what you are working on!

Stay warm and let's count the days til spring!

XO,
Jane

hello Julie marie - you know how much I love the snow (keeping that to myself now as not too many people want to hear that) :-)
so happy you are enjoying the granola - it does go fast doesn't it! love that our days are so similar ♥ I owe you an email ...will send that soon xo

hi jane - thank you so much ♥ you always leave the sweetest comments! I will post my recipe for gnudi as it takes only a few ingredients and less than 5 minutes to cook! and is soooo yummy. I could honestly eat all of them myself :-)
Ron Sexsmith's music has a sort of folk feel to it I would say. If you google his name, you can go on his website and listen to his music ... you will love it - very peaceful ♥ I usually press the repeat button on my C.D. player and just let it play on a loop :-)
