The ordinary arts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest ~ Sir Thomas Moore ~

Thankful {things I love} Thursday ...

One of the reasons I love doing a Thankful  (things I love} Thursday post is that I can recap my week of gratitude in one post.  I've been doing a TT post since I started blogging {with my 1st posted from home blog in 2006)
This weeks thankful loves are ...
my chippy garden statue ~
she stands guarding, nestled in a flower patch in our back yard.
our  courtyard garden

mostly left to it's own doing
our little English country garden
we've had 2 hummingbird spottings (still hoping to catch a photo ... have been trying for years)
a beautiful yellow swallowtail that's been in our garden since the lilac bloomed
lots and lots of bumbles
blue jays and crows, doves, black birds and
~sparrows~
the perfect veggie lunch
with fresh farmer market ingredients
 tomatoes and spinach
avocado
hummus (homemade)
rye toast
couscous
red cabbage
and a handful of cashews
~yum~
our walking spot is filled with Swallows
one spot in particular finds them in clusters along the wires
a lovely little community
we had to be careful at one point where we stepped
there were random eggs here and there
since there are a lot of Killdeer in the area, I wondered if they belonged to them ♥
will have to do some research :-)

I absolutely devoured every picture...your courtyard garden and then the English cottage garden are things I have dreamed of. I'm working on one at the lake but it is slow going, bit by bit every summer. I thought it would be much like throwing in handfuls of seed and watching it blossom! No, I'm designing beds and trying to make sure I have something blooming in spring, summer and fall. Height and width variations, complimentary colors. I may be over~thinking the whole thing! Did you have a plan?

Thank you for this recipe, it looks delicious. We are eating more and more salads so we don't need to use the oven on these very hot days. Hope you are having better weather than us.

XO,
Jane

thank you Jessica ~ we have a little bench off to one side where we like to sit with our tea & often while sitting quietly birds will stop by for a sip of water ♥

hi jane ~ oh your cottage garden at the lake will be gorgeous! tossing handfuls of seeds and letting them bloom where they may is MY style :-) my hubby on the other hand is very methodical so we are a good combo!
Our weather has been all over the place ...rain, humidity and heat, and cool evenings. The majority of our dinners are cooked on the bbq to keep the house cool too.
have a wonderful weekend jane ♥

Hello Deb... as always, I am so enchanted by your post... your cottage gardens are just lovely!... I really love the brick and also your chippy statue... love hearing about all of your visitors to your gardens as well... today, Jack saw a gorgeous Rufous Hummingbird at our back feeder!... we rarely get a Rufous, so I am constantly watching for him now!... lots of Black Chinned and several others, and I love them all!... your recipe sounds delish!... perfect for hot weather... and your watercolor is just gorgeous... I have done several more too, and am still enjoying it so much!... Happy Summer Solstice to you!... xoxo Julie Marie

Love your courtyard garden, Deb! It looks like a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the garden. xo

thank you Lynda ~ this little spot is perfect for sitting with a cup of tea. we have a bird bath nestled in one part and a smaller one in another part. The smallest is the favourite amongst the birds, I think they feel safer in shallow water. often the sparrows will go there and have a splash around while we are only a breath away ~ that is the best part of all ♥
