The ordinary arts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest ~ Sir Thomas Moore ~

Thankful {things I love} Thursday ...

the peony are in bloom
each year it seems I watch and watch
wondering when it will be that the first bloom appears
and then in the blink of an eye
the entire peony bush is filled with scented flowers
we had quite a downpour last night
with thunder and lightening
the garden is well watered
and little birdie drinking areas
filled to the top
this one is a favourite with the sparrows
tucked in amongst the peony, hosta and larkspur
 ranunculus
and red geraniums
I know that a rule of thumb says peony take a while to re establish themselves once moved.
We lost so many bushes and plants due to the harsh Winter and especially the ice storm that moving this particular Peony was necessary.
It has never looked so good!
I think it prefers it's new spot.
both Peony bushes bloomed at exactly the same time this year

Later this afternoon,
when the garden has dried,
I will pick some blooms ... just a few ... to put on our table ♥
working on a garden project...

Your peonies are gorgeous, Deb! I've never had a problem moving peonies - they've always settled into their new homes just fine.

Wasn't that a storm last night?? I thought the garden would wash away!

Have a lovely afternoon! xo

Deb - your peonies are so beautiful. Wish they bloomed longer - they are truly the queen of the garden. That picnic basket looks wonderful - can I come along - I so love to dine outdoors!!

Hello Monique ~ raining on and off here all day, making it very humid. I can hardly believe that yesterday my peony were just big swollen buds and today, both bushes are tipping over with heavy blooms! Wishing you a wonderful day as well ♥

Hi Libby ~ the tablecloth was a gift from a dear blog friend ~ I love all the bright colours in it & the fabric is lovely and sturdy. I pack a plastic cloth as well, but love a nice vintage cotton tablecloth to go over :-)

thank you Julie marie ♥ the picket fence has stood the test of time ... we built it 25 years ago :-) I always wanted a picket fence & wild English country garden. Thank you for telling me your red Salvia memories ~ I love anything like that & will think of you when I look at them xo spotted the baby rabbit (he was eating the pansies) ... took photos from the dining room - will share them soon ♥

HI there Deb! It feels so good to be dropping by for a visit.
Your photos are just stunning! I adore peonies and intend to create a large hedge of them alone.
It was a difficult winter, and we have lost several shrubs, trees and flowers here too. But we also had a few unexpected survivors. And our Spring has been a good balance of heat and rain. So, not all is bad.
All the best,
Andrea
