Thankful {things I love} Thursday ...

After two disappointments at trying to root an avocado pit ...
third time really did turn out to be a charm :-)
seems each morning, the taproot stretches a teeny bit more out of it's shell!
I am soooooo excited. It really has been fascinating to watch as the shell cracked open.
Vases filled with garden peonies scattered all through the house
AND
the beginnings of a new avocado plant!!!!
It has been raining for most of the day & wonderfully cool {my kind of weather}
I have been jotting down garden notes & sketches to keep track of my avocado's progress ...

Took this little Country Living Garden Journal that I've had  for years off the shelf & it was  fun to look back at my "Wish Lists" and Garden Logs from years gone by.
In 2001 I noted that our garden was filled with Geraniums, Silver Dusty Miller,  Impatients, Petunias, Dianthus, Lamb's ears, Yarrow, Coreopsis, Morning Glory vine,  Cosmos, Vinca, Bachelor's Buttons, Lavatera, Shasta Daisy, Cone flower,  Delphiniums, Sweet peas, Russell lupins, Larkspur, Portulaca & Pansies.  Pink was the predominant colour where as now I prefer red.
In 2005 my new favourite annual was Cleome & I noted that I had filled window boxes, pots, as well as garden beds with them.
After reading about the Heavenly Blue Morning Glory, I remembered one summer it had self-seeded and we found our garden filled - front and back with Morning Glory EVERYWHERE.
And then there is
this sweetest little Carolina wren who finds shelter under our garden deck. We only have one.
I just love her chunky little body & upturned tail ♥
Carolina wren & emerald green, raindrop covered leaves gave me inspiration ...

Time to put on the rain boots & find some puddles :-D

when he walks around a puddle
instead of in it

What a great post! I kept garden journals as well and it is fun to see how some of our favorites have stayed the same and some have changed.

I have Morning Glory as well and it sets seed every fall. I plant herbs nearby and have saved their lives many times from the flowers strong tendrils.

Cool weather here, too. Love it!

Jane

Very interesting to see the avocado root! I love that you kept a garden journal. I have one too, but I kind of let it lapse... perhaps it's time to get it out again.

Love the avocado seed sprouting. I almost did the same thing a few weeks ago as we eat them all the time. Maybe I will have to give it a go!

Love your sweet Carolina Wren too!

Have a wonderful week-end!
