Texture Tuesdays...

Kim Klassen Texture: Urban

You should.

and fun is good.

Oh Dear!  We may have a rare breed of Labrador ... Archer doesn't seem to like the water :-(
Our daughter bought him a nice little kiddie pool & with the heat and humidity we've had this Summer, we all thought he'd be anxious to get in ... wrong!
It will be interesting to see him at the Cottage :-)

Sunday Serenity...

The water is your friend.
You don't have to fight with the water,
just share the same spirit
as the water,
and it will help you move.

Thankful {things I love} Thursday...

To help deal with the hot, humid weather we've been experiencing this Summer,
we've kept our meals light.  Curried couscous salad , hummus on crisp bread with fresh sliced tomatoes and cucumber is quick and easy to prepare, delicious and good for you ♥
It's so versatile that you can throw in anything you like.
It makes a wonderful lunch, and for more of a  dinner I add a cup of chickpeas and hard boiled egg.
1 cup of whole wheat couscous (cook according to package directions)
1/4 small head red cabbage, julienned
1/2 cup fresh spinach leaves
handful of dried cranberries (or raisins)
handful of cashews
*Fluff couscous with a fork.  Add cabbage, spinach, cranberries and cashews and toss.
1 1/2 TBSP extra virgin olive oil
juice of 1 lemon
1/2 TBSP curry powder
salt & pepper to taste
*Mix and pour dressing over salad.  Toss and serve warm.
Serves 2 dinner or 4 lunch.
The greatest delight
the fields and woods minister
is the suggestion of an occult relation
between man  and the vegetable.
I am not alone
and unacknowledged.
They nod to me
and I
to them.

I am Thankful to live within walking distance to a wonderful Farmer's Market where we can pick up ingredients for dinner ♥

Texture Tuesdays ...

~Thich Nhat Hanh~
I have been repeating this gentle mantra  today ...
another sweltering hot day   with tiny teases here and there of  (much needed) rain which  came  sporadically.
It's 102 degrees with the humidity at the moment (half past 6 in the evening)   "cooled down" from the 105 we had this afternoon!!
Joining in with Texture Tuesdays today.

Where Bloggers Create ...

Thank you Karen for hosting the 4th annual Where Bloggers Create.
Since I was having computer issues and unable to upload photos to my posts for a few weeks, I did not think I'd be able to participate this year, so my blog did not make it to the list.  At the moment, my studio is going through a "transformation" ...  however,
by clicking on the Where Bloggers Create buttons on my sidebar, it will take you to tours of my little Sparrow Studio for 2009, 2010, and 2011 ♥
I feel really blessed to have a room  of my own where I can paint and draw, read, sew, write, knit & decorate and blog!
I have a nice big table where I can paint ...

and a spot for my sewing machine where I can create special heart felt treasures ...
a nook to sit and read ...
a place to create using my photographs as inspiration ...
and lots of inspiration boards filled with magazine and newspaper clippings of images that
make me smile :-)
 a place to dream ...
 all year long ...
Looking forward to visiting all the other Studio spaces on the WBC tour ♥
Have a wonderful Weekend xo

Thankful {things I love} Thursday...

Inspired by Nature ♥

 Blueberry jam making time ...
Nothing fancy, just simple refrigerator jam to spread on freshly baked scones - yum!  And the added bonus of spending time in the kitchen with my daughter as we listen to music and talk, thinking up new recipes :-) ♥
Last year my husband & I spent the day at a Butterfly Conservatory.
Being so inspired by their beauty,  I found butterflies turning up in my artwork & in gift wrapping.
A present wrapped in vintage dress makers tissue, with some seam binding, a little burlap heart & white button all ready to be mailed.
The Spread your Wings and Fly stamp is by G Studio and is a stamp I use over and over again (birds show up in much of my art work too) :-)
I drew a little butterfly on some heavy stock paper, stamped the entire butterfly with one of my favourite clear Tim Holtz  stamps & created little antenna from some copper wire.

 A walk amongst nature,
whether by sea,
meadow or wood
works wonders
for the human spirit

Garden Glance ~ Kinship ...

Well, I have no idea why I'm able to upload AND save my photos today  ...
but I'm thrilled it's working so far (touch wood).
I hope you are all having a wonderful Summer ...
While I was eating my breakfast on the back deck this morning , I was amazed at the amount of bumbles weaving in and out of the trumpet vine (which is enormous and hanging heavily over our fence ).
We have a new little garden friend.  Meet "Chip"  ♥
and it turns out, the birds have some competition ...
we've  also been enjoying the sounds of frog serenades :-)
I'm sure I've been a toad,
one time or another.
With bats, and weasels, worms ...
I rejoice in the kinship.
