The ordinary arts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest ~ Sir Thomas Moore ~

One Word A Week Wednesday ...

I possessed my soul
and finally,
though the delay was long,
perceived some appearances of bloom.

Garage Sale Saturday ...

Hello friend...

Found some lovely, rusty, vintage items this morning while out and about at garage sales.
An iron to add to the laundry room shelf ...

and something I had been looking for ~ a cow bell :-)

some old keys ...

and a few pieces of jewelry to add to some lacy cuffs I'm making for Christmas gifts...

and a huge spool that now sits amongst some vintage molds (all for $2.00)
I have a few "unintentional" collections happening :-) a bit of a farmhouse chic ...
What do you collect?
~Have a wonderful weekend~

A Canvas ...

is a canvas
by Nature
{Ernie enjoying a mid-afternoon nap}
A real mixture of temperatures today! We noticed the difference first thing this morning.
79 degrees but felt like 91 with the humidity...
lots of wind...
then rain...
then sunshine.

Thankful {things I love} Thursday...

I came home with lots of photos of barns from our days away this past Summer ...
I ♥ LOVE ♥ barns ...
the more aged/worn/weathered/ the better ...
but then ...
we came across this barn
which reminded me of a saying I have ~ when we are out and I touch up my lipstick I will say I'm "putting a little paint on the barn" :-)
and I guess it really does make a difference :-)

Fence Friday ...

The softest things in the world
the hardest things in the world
There's an old rusty fence that I walk by most mornings with Ernie. One day I noticed a single morning glory vine was curling itself in and out of the wires. Then I noticed it was in bloom and thought of how that one little vine in bloom had turned the fence into something beautiful ♥

One Word A Week Wednesday...

Dwell as near as possible
to the channel in which your life flows
~Henry David Thoreau~
I was born by the sea in England and have always been drawn to water. We feel so fortunate to live within minutes of the Lake where we have called home for the past 26 years. This past Summer, hubby & I went on a few boat cruises and always comment on the fact that although I am a non-swimmer, I am so calm on the water. I suppose, like the wise words of Thoreau, it's because its the way my life flows.

Dog Day Afternoon...

The leaves of our Maple tree are turning colour and dropping all over our front garden.

Yesterday afternoon, hubby & Ernie spent a few hours doing garden cleanup ~ there were tree branches to trim, and hedges to clip, and leaves to rake.

When I came outside with cups of tea, I started gathering up the prettiest leaves to press. I think this year I will frame some for our family room wall. Our Maple tree has so many wonderful memories attached to it. By October, the leaves will be their most gorgeous ~ they always put on a wonderful show :-)

This photo of Ernie made me smile ... he looked like he had the silliest grin :-)
We are so thankful to have him !

He turns 12 next month ♥ and even though we only adopted him 9 months ago, I can't imagine him not being part of our family.
My faithful companion... no matter where I am, he follows.
And I wouldn't have it any other way!
Ernie is loving the cooler weather we enjoyed over the labour day weekend and while Summer seems to have passed by so quickly, I love September and happy to be heading into my favourite season Autumn!

One Word A Week Wednesday...

Try to remember
the kind of September
when life was slow and oh so mellow.
Try to remember
the kind of September
when grass was green and grain so yellow.
Try to remember
the kind of September
when you were young and a callow fellow.
Try to remember
and if you remember
then follow ... follow ... oh~oh.
"Try To Remember"
~Lyrics by Tom Jones & Harvey Schmid
Happy September 1st ♥
